Barad Mountain Cathedral (IID) & Barad Dinky Dora with Essien Bingham (August 2011) Welcome to the website for Barad Kennels, owners of a small number of Italian greyhounds and Tibetan spaniels located in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.  Our History We started as a family affair in 1970s when Barbara and her daughters Monique and Simone commenced breeding and showing Shetland Sheepdogs. We owe a lot to our first Sheltie - Iggy who inspired us to get into showing, obedience & breeding. Shelties remained a large part of our lives for over 30 years and Barbara still retains a pair of twelved year olds from our last litter. Barbara with the Shelties - Bravo and Carmen (January 2012) Eight years ago our love affair with Tibetan Spaniels & Italian Greyhounds commenced. Monique purchased a Tibetan Spaniel from the well known Barrajy kennel and Simone an Italian Greyhound from the quality Queensland kennel Wondoan. From those days forward we knew we had found the breeds for us and not long after we decided to get back into the show ring. Good friend Rowena Ransley became interested in Italian Greyhounds and became involved with Barad in 2008, showing and loving her Italian Greyhounds with us and helping us often with puppy raising. We owe alot too to Chris Scott - Tunamara Kennels - South Australia, who we met by chance after Monique had bred her first litter of Tibetan Spaniels. We were to discover that Chris loved and bred not only Tibetan Spaniels but Italian Greyhounds. In September 2009 our girl JLo (Ch Am Ch Razzo Bellagio Absolutely Sinful) arrived from Missouri in the US, after a two year search to find the right dog to import to strengthen and add to our existing Italian Greyhounds. Kristi Crouch and Con Moothart from the Bellagio and Razzo Kennels have been such great guides and they still are very excited to hear what JLo is doing and how all her kids are doing in Australia.   Barad Mountain Cathedral (IID) with Ch Barad Bambina Labamba (Bambi) and Am Ch Ch Razzo Bellagio Absolutely Sinful (September 2011) In July 2010 we added a Saluki - Claudie and two Havanese - Teddy in September 2010 and Chelsea in January 2011. Although having Havies and a Saluki has added spice to our households its the Igs and the Tibs that have captured our hearts. Barad Kennels is not really a 'kennel' as all our dogs live inside and are members of our families. It consists of three generations of dog lovers: Barbara, our founding member; Her daughters Simone and Monique and family friend Rowena Ransley; and  Sim's daughter -  Sancia and Mon's daughter - Edwina - our junior handlers. In April 2010 Ashby, Sim's 9 year old son also commenced as a junior handler - making it even more a family affair. We have been showing our iggies and tibbies since 2006 and continue to learn about these adorable toy breeds. We have made some great friends through our dogs, including other breeders from all around the country and in fact from other countries too. Our Aims We love these bright little dogs and love having them in our lives and we enjoy sharing this passion with other dog lovers in Tasmania.  Its really great when we are stopped on walks and asked 'what type of dog is that'? We expect to breed approximately a litter a year, striving for puppies that are conformationally correct, healthy and with a happy sound temperament and that continue to improve the quality of the breed. Our puppies are raised around our children and other animals. We believe that the love and care that they get from us and our kids ensures that they are well adjusted furry happy members of the family. We show our dogs as a family, as professionally as we are able. We really enjoy showing, even when we don't win.   We don't have pups often, but when we do we will let you know here! Puppies Italian Greyhounds We have been lucky enough to have had 7 litters over the past 6 years - 4 whelped by Simone and 3 by Rowena. We currently have 3 12  week old pups from a litter JLo had on  the 15th October. Recent photos of JLo's litter are on our Iggy Pups page. We also have  a litter of 8 weeks old from Bambi born 15th November. Dad is our home boy - Ch Barad Night Ina Forest (IID). From out litter born in  January 2011 we have retained Sophia and our singleton pup litter gave us the delightful Dora, born in March 2011. Mitty was a good girl and gave us three gorgeous girls in December 2011.
